Jargon Buster: AAC

So it seems important that the first term I address in Mummy vs. AAC is AAC. AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication. It means anything that people use to help if they struggle with speech.

In it’s broadest sense it means anything we naturally use like gesture and writing and also things such as Makaton signing. Often when people talk about AAC they are talking about ways of communicating which involve symbols or written words presented in a way that helps people get the the message they want either on paper or using an electronic system. Most people who use AAC have a range of tools available to help.
