AAC in the cloud 2023 ‘The Power of One’

I’ve been slowly but surely making my way through some of the presentations from this year’s AAC in the cloud. I love AAC in the cloud as it provides a brilliant international forum for sharing ideas and practice around AAC and it’s all completely free!!

I’ve not yet made my way through all of the presentations from this year but here are a few of the ones I’ve particularly enjoyed and why.

Melissa DeMoux: Free AAC Resources for Buy-in and Communication Growth

Loads of great resources and all for free and a range of things from different providers.

Donnie TC Denome: Plain Language for AAC — What It Is and Why It Matters

https://presenters.aacconference.com/videos/UWpKQk1qTT0=

This was a really practical run down of what plan language looks like and how to use it. I know I want to reflect on this more in some of the things I share.

Owen McGirr: AI and AAC

https://presenters.aacconference.com/videos/UXpFMFFUSXo=

This was a really interesting presnrtation of uses of AI in enhancing AAC tools with examples from work Owen has developed through his company EnabO https://www.facebook.com/enaboapps/?locale=es_ES

Sara Ware: Power in Community Partnership: Fostering Relationships in Order to Improve AAC Access and Implementation and Lauren Greenlief: Community Communication Supports — Beyond the Playground

https://presenters.aacconference.com/videos/UVRWQk1qTT0=

https://presenters.aacconference.com/videos/UWpJeFFUSXo=

Both of these presentations talk in detail about different models of community based AAC resources.

Laura Hayes: The 1 AAC Strategy You May be Missing

https://presenters.aacconference.com/videos/UXpRd1FUSXo=

This was right up my street as Laura talked in detail about the importance of acknowledging the communication that IS happening.

Zoe Pardoe: Practical implementation of AAC within a busy special school – importance of school and home links

https://presenters.aacconference.com/videos/UXpJMlFUSXo=

AAC with a british accent. I really enjoyed this presentation which described practical AAC implementation in a UK special school.

Lynn Elko, Tara McCarty, & Dawn Sowers: Evidenced-Based AAC Interventions for Cortical Visual Impairment

https://presenters.aacconference.com/videos/UVRFeFFUSXo=

This was a really good presentation which included research about cortical visual impairment along with ways to support it in relation to AAC.
